It's been claimed that one of the reasons for Michael Jackson's decision to undertake a mammoth tour at the age of 50 was to allow his children to see him in action.
His three beloved little ones had never seen the magic of the king of pop in concert, and those who knew him say he was desperate for that to change.
Alas, it wasn't to be, and we all know the sad story of that June night in 2009, but last night was a cause for celebration because Prince, 14 , 13-year-old Paris and Blanket, nine, arrived to see the next best thing at the Staples Centre in L.A
Proud moment: Blanket looks unimpressed but Paris and Prince, in his Jacksons shirt, smile for the cameras at the LA premiere of The Immortal World Tour tonight
It was the city's premiere of Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour, which is Cirque Du Soleil's critically acclaimed tribute to the icon.
The children had a taster of what was to come when the company performed a number from their show at Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Thursday at a ceremony to remember their father.
He never got the chance to commit prints of his hands and feet to the cement outside the legendary venue for posterity, so his progeny did it for him.
Paying homage: Rihanna wore an over-the-top leather suit that Michael would surely have loved
Looking sharp: But the megastar would be hard-pressed to moonwalk in those Louboutin heels
And teen pop sensation Justin Bieber also took to the stage to perform Rockin' Robin, giving a touching introduction before he burst into song.
The 17-year-old said: 'I don’t usually get nervous, but I’m kind of really nervous right now. Basically because Michael meant so much to me and I know he meant a lot to you guys as well.
'He was more than an entertainer. He was an inspiration the way he was kind, he was gentle and very charitable.
Film star in the making: Little Paris was radiant and composed as ever as she did her father proud
Remembering: Tito Jackson, Jamie King and Marlon Jackson pose up together
Mixed emotions: Blanket looks less convinced by the event than his siblings
'That’s why I look up to him. People are going to remember him for his dancing and singing, but
people have to remember him for being the man that he was. I think everybody right now should give Michael a round of applause.'
He added: 'Everything I do, I look at Michael and I want to be as good as he was.'
And there were a host of other stars at the event to honour the Thriller singer, who died in June 2009, aged 50.
Fans: Singer and actress Brandy Norwood and her daughter Sy'rai Smith arrive
Preparing for the big night: Rihanna was casual in grey in Beverly Hills earlier in the day
Melanie Fiona also performed, while Smokey Robinson, Quincy Jones and Chris Tucker all made speeches.
And the children were not the only family members on hand to honour the memory of the late musician.
Katherine, Tito and Jackie Jackson all showed up to the event remembering their son and brother.
And the trio, who have appeared in the spotlight more since the death of their father, happily posed for pictures with the Cirque du Soleil team and the event’s celebrity guests.
Paris also looks set to follow in her father’s footsteps, after recently landing a role in a movie.
